Chapter 540 - Ein and Quinn

As everything would be taking place, the bounty related to the Camo Pirates would only continue to rise with each movement that group two made.

While all of those things were taking place in outer space, things back on Earth were still proceeding quite smoothly.

Alyssia and the others had settled in quite well on Egghead and had gotten themselves a good spot for their business and to work from.

With the resources that could be shipped using the White Storm's resources, it made more things possible too.

Alyssia had to take trips outside to secure some more important things while making the odd trip to other places so she had to leave the others to handle matters on their own at times.

She had just returned recently and had already gained a good understanding of her surroundings.

Nica, Ein and Tristan were already busy at work as they were developing their skills further with the knowledge that Alyssia provided with her newly obtained skills.

Alyssia was able to learn a lot more about her surroundings by looking at the skills others possessed since it was like reading a book about what kind of things they had experienced.

It did not cover every detail but it created a vague enough picture about each person.

She did not fully understand their circumstances but she was able to learn some details like what kind of profession they had or what kind of upbringing they had.

She spent a little time being cautious of her neighbors while trying to understand them a little better to allow everyone to adapt to the new environment.

What she did not expect to see upon her return was that it had been Ein who had caused them to gain a foothold in the community.

It all started one day from a very small meeting between Ein and a neighbor who lived in the building opposite theirs with their daughter.

The neighbor showed concern for Ein who was quite thin and had bags under her eyes from all of the hours she put into her work.

Although she gained frequent checkups from Tristan who constantly lectured her, she still failed to properly take care of herself.

Among the crew, she was one of the weaker ones who did not have a very physically strong body and she relied on the foam Devil Fruit abilities to overcome many things that should have killed her.

Her appearance seemed to have caught their attention causing concern to grow for her and that resulted in there being small exchanges.

The past experiences with others had taken their toll on Ein especially when it came to having such attention from others so she did not know how to deal with it so well.

She did not know how to reject such kindness so she just accepted it.

It was yet another day as there was as she was returning with supplies to begin her next experiment then a big figure ran out to her side holding a container that contained a hot meal that seemed to have just been prepared.

The figure belonged to a man named Quinn who had slightly dark skin and short magenta faux hawk haircut with goatee-style facial hair.

He looked to be at least in his forties in terms of age while he was quite muscular which suggested that he could be quite a powerful person despite possessing quite the intellect too.

Quinn was dressed in a hazmat suit that covered most of his body while he wore triangle-shaped colorful shades that matched the color of his hazmat suit. "Here... for your health."

Ein hesitated for a moment before reaching out to take it from his hands. "A...alright."

She was feeling a little overwhelmed by how he forcefully approached her like that and kept looking out for her.

Ein did not know how to feel about it but she quickly thanked him. "Thanks... how is your work going?"

It was the first time she properly struck up a conversation with him so it could be considered as making a big leap forward.

Quinn frowned in response as he rubbed the back of his neck. "I am making some strides but I do not think that I will be able to achieve my desired result."

Ein furrowed her brows. "I see... what is it exactly that you are working on if you do not mind? What problems have you encountered?"

Quinn sighed before replying. "It is not something that I am so proud of but I used to work in a place that caused a lot of destruction to itself. I am working on something that could potentially reverse the damage done.

If I succeeded then I would return to my homeland to fix the problem before all is lost there. I am having some trouble with finding the right way to counter the effects but the delivery method is a big issue too."

There was some sorrow in his voice as he tried to leave out a lot of his past that brought up many bad memories.

Quinn had a painful past that he had run away from.

It was full of loss and sacrifice but he had not given up and continued to use it to motivate him toward overcoming it all if it helped others.

The mistakes that others had made could not be repeated and he wanted to right those wrongs.

Those mistakes had resulted in the ruin of much of his homeland and forced him to have to flee far away.

Not only did he have to leave behind his birthplace but to achieve that and get away safely with his greatest treasure, he had to leave something just as important behind.

He worked at the facility that was behind everything but there was a fatal fault that caused a leakage.
