The thing about the mystic forest is that it's well... mystical. Freia chuckled at the weak explanation but it's true. Her cheerful expression faded when the trees started moving right before her eyes. Khai glanced at her from behind his veiled straw hat. He pulled her and Ren yelled, "Watch out!"
Deftly, Khai pulled her backwards and he pushed her agilely, effectively avoiding all the trees at once.
Ren dashed out at the right moment and did a quick incantation to dismantle the trees magical devices.
As it turns out, it looks like I'm fast becoming the limiting factor here, Freia thought wryly. Khai looked at her and he gave a mild cough, "Are you alright?"
Freia nodded her head when Ren pulled her into his arms abruptly. "Careful, there's another branch!"
Khai glanced at the hand that was holding Freia's wrist and he looked at Ren with restrained annoyance. His eyes lingered at her wrist and Ren's hands.
"Do... any of you sense danger?" Freia said abruptly, breaking the icy tension between the two boys. She glanced upwards and her eyes spotted an ominous silver glint.
"Watch out!" as her voice rang, sharp flying arrows rained in their direction. Each one able to decapitate its victim easily.
Thank the heavens for her killer instincts! Freia thought just as she dodged a flying arrow in her direction. However, she wasn't able to dodge the second and third arrows that came flying in opposite directions. Like a deer caught in the headlights, she closed her eyes and awaited her fate.
She waited for the harrowing pain that would pierce through her flesh but nothing came. She opened her eyes gingerly and was stunned by what she saw.
Khai held onto the arrow with his bare hands. She was about to ask if he was alright when the soil loosened and they fell down into the earth that swallowed them whole.
Rola smiled in satisfaction at the ground that had opened and swallow the two pests. She was about to head in the opposite direction when someone struck her head and blackness surrounded her.
