Not leading enemies to their house is the basic precaution they need to take if they don't want someone to come to their house to rob or kill them. At the very least, they should lose the person through the city before going home.
In the future, when they only had one pathway, the success of this basic action would be based on skill, observation, and luck. They would need to rely on excellent observation to identify someone following them, and they would need skillful maneuvering and navigation through the city to lose them.
