He slapped his forehead and said, "I forgot to ask him if he knew how to set up the altar and if he needed help."
Then he shrugged and said, "I'm sure it will be fine. The god of steam will accept anything as long as it is not intentionally blasphemous."
Not everyone can set up an altar, and an altar couldn't be set up anyhow. Each god has their own preferences.
The gods also have the choice to accept an altar or reject it. A wrong altar can be rejected, and it can anger the gods. The same is true for a correct altar.
An altar arranged correctly can still anger the gods and can also be rejected. The gods retain the right to choose. So as long as the gods favor someone, they are more likely to overlook mistakes and accept a wrong altar.
