Chapter 5 - Chapter 01: The Fleeing Lich_3

"What are you doing?"

The Silver-armored Knight's eyes darted around quickly, and he hurriedly said, "Nothing, we... we're looking for something."

"Looking for something?" Noticing the surrounding torches, the Knights armored to the teeth, their squires, and the onlooking townspeople, the Bearded Knight burst out laughing: "So many people looking for something this late at night?"

"Yes, the more people, the easier it is to find." The Silver-armored Knight laughed awkwardly.

The old mayor, who could no longer hold back, walked forward with a cane and respectfully saluted: "Honorable Knight sir, we are chasing a Lich."

"Nonsense! There's no Lich here!" The Silver-armored Knight, frightened, pointed his sword at the old mayor.

The Bearded Knight lightly flicked away the Silver-armored Knight's sword with his spear: "Are you saying there is a Lich here?"

"Yes."

"No, no Lich!"

The young girl next to the middle-aged man, who had a thin face, curly hair, and was dressed elegantly, was quietly instructed: "Miss Yilin, no matter what, we should not get involved."

The girl named Yilin immediately rode her horse forward with her subordinates. As she passed by the Bearded Knight, she spoke softly: "It doesn't matter whether there is a Lich or not, as long as it doesn't concern us. Let's find an inn to rest."

"Yes!"

From beginning to end, there was not a trace of emotion on the noble girl's face.

The Silver-armored Knight finally breathed a sigh of relief. *Although he didn't understand why anyone would not be interested in Liches, it was surely a good thing that they didn't compete.*

Turning his head, he shouted to his subordinates around him, "Continue searching! Hurry up!"

"Yes—!"

The sweeping search continued.

...

*Gray, completely indifferent to the outside events, shifted to a more comfortable position and solemnly said to the Black Cat,* "I plan to stay in the surface world. The Great Lich Bruto has branded my soul. As soon as I return to the underground world, he will find out."

"You plan to stay in the surface world? Don't be ridiculous. Do you think the church is stupid? They won't spare any Lich."

*Gray asked seriously,* "Then... is there a way to avoid being seen?"

"Avoid being seen?" The Black Cat thought for a moment, saying, "Disguise yourself as one of those Knights searching for you? They look like walking tin cans. If necessary, they can keep their faces concealed."

"Alright, I've decided to become a Knight!" Lich Gray announced solemnly.

The Black Cat was shocked: "Are you crazy? Knights need to be able to cast holy magic! And you're a Lich!"

"You mean this?" Lich Gray extended his finger, and silver-white light flickered from his fingertips.

The Black Cat was dumbfounded.

Two Knights rode by, scanning the area.

Gray quickly extinguished the light from his fingertips.

After they moved away, the Black Cat excitedly said, "Heavens, I saw a Lich using holy magic! Did you steal that technique from the Great Lich Bruto? The church would go insane if they knew!"

"It's nothing unusual; many Liches can do it." Lich Gray showed a bone ring inscribed with spells: "I accidentally took it from Bruto's study. This kind of energy is most effective for crushing the undead."

*It's a misconception that Liches can't use holy magic. They certainly won't use it in battles against humans, just like they won't throw curses at each other in Lich conflicts.*

"I realize you're not just stealing techniques; you're a thorough thief. Haha, now I understand the Great Lich Bruto's anger; you surely stole more than just this."

Lich Gray laughed dryly: "Alright, what should we do now? Maybe I should find some armor to wear. Oh, by the way, what do Knights usually do?"

"How would I know? I'm not a Knight. Haha, maybe you could go to the bookstore ahead and buy a 'Knight's Career Guide' or something. I saw them promoting that book today. You're a lunatic!"

"There's such a book? That's great! I need that right now!" Gray cheered. This was the luckiest thing he had encountered recently. *It seemed becoming a Knight wasn't so hard for a Lich.*

The Black Cat felt completely in the dark.

*What day is it? There's a whole bunch of Knights searching outside, and he's talking about becoming a Knight with a Lich?*

Not far away, two fully armed Knights pulled on their reins and looked back.

"I think I heard someone cheering. Did you see that cloth moving?"

"I saw it." The other Knight drew his sword with a "clang."
