Chapter 4 - closing in on beta!

He wakes up five minutes later.

"I definitely need to decrease the amount of comfort".

He gets back up with a new goal in mind.

"I need to test RETURN"! He shouts.

"I almost forgot". He pouts a little.

He mutters;

"Stats".

He presses inventory and equips his engraved wand.

Stepping into the hallway he tries to use return,

But it doesn't work.

The icon glowed red.

With a smile, he walks downstairs and then out of the Inn.

Outside he casts return once more.

The icon now glows green.

*swoosh

He was enveloped in blue energy and appeared inside the room he was previously in.

"Working as it should, I will change the particles they seem too overwhelming."

He walks out of the Inn again.

Now Walking towards a man who's holding an axe on his shoulders,

The man had a confident grin on his face.

"Hey young warrior wanna axe"? He genuinely asks

Ash agrees.

"Yes please".

Ash grabs the axe and goes to a choppable tree, indicated by a green marker. It appeared when he equipped the axe.

He followed the hologram that guided him.

He chopped the tree down.

+0 wood

It worked.

After that, he walked toward a mine, in front of it was a guy wearing a yellow hard cap holding a pickaxe upside down.

"Hey laddy, whatcha doin' here, cha?"

"I yearn to mine" Ash jokingly spouts.

"M'kay, here's the tools".

The miner passed the pickaxe and hard hat to Ash.

Equipping the hard hat and pickaxe;

Ash takes small steps into the mine, he knows this will be his first time encountering a monster.

He pressed on, he finally found a coal vein.

Klatter*

That's when he heard it a skeleton.

His first encounter with a monster.

He felt shivers through his spine.

A sudden jolt of dread befell him!

"Hello, skele-ton". He stuttered.

The skeleton raised its sword ready to strike but before it could;

Tsh*

A Fireball thwarted the skeleton's sword.

Dang* the sword clashed with the ground.

Klatter*

A skeleton close by heard this, and it approached.

Ash dashed backwards and shot another fireball.

Then another.

After a few moments, it finally died.

Thanks to the lack of focus on mob intelligence Ash didn't have to dodge any attacks.

Exp reward + 50

Gold reward +1

The other skeleton tried to sneak attack but its sword clashed with the cave roof.

'I will have to give them short swords'. He thought with an annoyed face.

Running out of mana he whacks the skeleton with a pickaxe instantly killing it!

"WHAT"! Ash screams.

"How the hell did I one-shot it how much bonus combat power does this give, let's see".

"Analyze".

A purple screen appeared.

[Iron pickaxe:

Combat power + 750

Durability:9.9/10

Description:

An iron pickaxe, used to mine basic ores.

]

"That combat power needs fixing." He seriously tells himself.

"Let's mine first though".

He shakes himself, walking toward the coal.

He readies his pickaxe and starts to mine

"Ha"

"Ha"

He struck the coal and mined the vein.

Once the vein was empty he gathered them up.

Coal +3 *

Coal + 5*

Coal + 1

"Nine pieces of coal that's decent."

Everything worked it appeared in his inventory and he could bring it into the crafting tab.

Smiling at the fact he killed two birds with one stone jollyed his way out of the cave managing to avoid all the remaining skeletons.

He decides to log out.

Ash: Could you guys make a boss system so I can create one whenever I want?

Since you're improving upon the item crafting system, it'll be after that.

once we have at least one boss and some taverns,

I'll be ready to launch the beta.

Once you have completed that make a market/auction/trading system as well, I'll buy some prototypes for a blueprint to base it on if needed.

Head developer: sure, we haven't got anything better to do right lads.

Others: yep!

After Ash and the developers discussed breaks and future projects.

Over the past 8 days, Ash worked on optimizing and working on ideas.

The devs had finished all the requirements.

Ash was working on creating a boss that'll be within a wizard spire once they become interactive.

Boss name: Corrupt mage

Health: 200/200

Combat power: 1500

Weakness:

Divine wrath: damaged when healing magic is used on it or near it.

Buffs:

Corrupt blessing: invulnerable to all dark-based magic moves.

Demonic shadow: can travel in between shadows.

Drops:

The staff of locus: can summon a horde of bugs to terrorize your enemies. 1/ 700

Mage heart: grants 300+ Permanent mana and the genius mage talent.

Can only be used by mages 7+. 1/900

Demonic Knowledge: demonic knowledge is a book that gives the user the ability to travel through shadows. 1/3500.

"Okay, thanks to the versatility of the weapon and skill system that came with the selection of the RPG genre, I can create unique abilities a lot easier."

He stated with a smirk.

He placed the boss next to all the spires, he only added a few perks to them like their hair or gender.

He wants to create actual spires for the players to enter but he doesn't wanna rush into that.

This was only a beta, to see if the main gameplay loops were fun, some stuff will remain while others will improve and change.

Ash loves the boss-creating system! It brings a brand-new spark.

"Now that I've finished with that, I'll create some skills for players, but before that, I'm going to design the taverns."

The taverns had bar counters and accommodations some were for only hanging out at some functioned like restaurants and Inns.

Getting even closer to the release of the beta, Ash chose to take a break and let the developers do their job.

*Yawn* he yawned

Walking down the stairs he looks around seeing old photos, photos of when he was proud of himself.

"Intrusive thoughts go away".

Shaking his head he reached the kitchen, his mom was at work.

He made some dinner and a drink.

After a short nap, he went outside.

Having no friends all he could do was explore.

He now had 100k+ in his bank but he also owed that so he doesn't wanna spend it on things that have nothing to do with the game development.

After clearing his head he returned home.

Now wanting to focus on basic skills for classes other than mage;

"I'll start with basic knight since this class only requires support and combat abilities while the commoner class is based more on generic worker abilities.".

Opening the interface he goes to skill creation.

[Create skill]

Clicking Create Skill on the GUI, Ash created;

Skill name: greater slash

Skill grade: 1

Cooldown: 7s

Cost: 0

Description: once activated the next slash of a sword will do 45% more damage.

Skill name: knights Honour.

Skill grade: 1

Cooldown: 30s

Cost: 6.5 rage

Description: if your rage is above 5 and this skill activates you gain a +5 in armour, else you gain +3 in defence.

Having developed two skills he decides to check on his employees.

They were working on a blueprint system for skills and so they'll be easier to add later on.

They improved upon the previous buff and debuff systems and the day ended.

-the month quickly flew-

- 2800 money

-600 money

"Me and my devs have been hard at work, hopefully, this is good enough for a beta"!

Ash hopes he's been doing this in between his part-time job at the convenience store.

He knows this is his chance to make it big, something deep down is making him feel unworthy.

"It will be worth it, the games gonna be a hit". He mumbles to himself.

They've now created a more immersive game, NPCs now have skilful dialects created by the voice recordings, and they feel much more natural now,

even though some of the npcs suspiciously sound the same.

The environment had more details like;

Falling petals, wind gusts, new NPC-type birds, the birds had no chirping sound as of yet but that'll be fixed and small extra details here and there.

The developers only did that because they had completed all the basic systems needed for an advanced RPG they just needed to add vfxs, models and sounds.

They now have spell clashing, improved healing, better damage indicators, sharper skill casting and much more, but they could still improve on these details in the future.

Knowing the beta is gonna be released within a week or so he starts a new project a new monster slot.

-14,000 money

Selecting to make 2 monsters costing 14k.

"I'm so glad, Basic boss mobs are free to make". He sighs in relief

"Time to focus on the more complicated class". He reluctantly sighs.
