Chapter 24—Is Daddy going to marry? (2)
It was already dark when Xu Long Wei emerged from his study and went to the dining hall. In there, his son was already sitting and eating his dinner. He took his seat and looked at the boy, who was now focusing on his food.
Xu Li didn't notice him. With a sharp eye, he studied him for a while and asked, "Xu Li, is there something wrong?"
His son tried to avoid eye contact and look in another direction instead. It made him suspect something was not right. However, knowing his son's personality, he didn't push for it and started eating his food.
He will tell him when he is ready. He thought.
"Father, I will go to my room now." Xu Li said and hurriedly left the hall.
Xu Long Wei's eyes followed his son's back, and he ordered Butler Yang to report. He wanted to know what was going on with his son. He never acted like this towards him. Something is definitely wrong, and he wanted to see the bottom of it.
However, a few minutes later, he is disappointed to know that even the butler doesn't have an idea about the reason why his young master was peculiar today. He gathered the staff to investigate, but they came up empty-handed.
Xu Long Wei's brow furrowed deeper. He needs to talk to his son. He left the table without finishing his food and walked towards the boy's room.
He opens the door, and Xu Li is sitting on his bed while holding his mother's photo frame. Although the boy quickly returned the picture frame to his cabinet, he can easily recognize it. After all, he is the one who made it for him. Since Xu Li was a baby, he always told him stories about his mom. After he grew older, when he asked for his mother, Xu Long Wei printed out Vera's photo and gave it to him. After that, it became his son's only treasure. He never separated himself from it. He even requested him to buy a necklace where he can put his mother's photo.
Studying his son's expression, it is evident that he just finished crying. So, Xu Long Wei sits next to him. They stay like that for a while without anyone saying a single word until he breaks the silence.
"Do you miss your mom?" He asked.
The boy didn't answer him instantly. It seems that he is hesitating. He waited for him to organize his thoughts.
"I just think that Daddy has been busy these days; it makes me sad to be left alone in the house." Xu Lin said in his childlike voice. He wants to ask his dad about the woman in the medical building, but he is scared that his answer would upset him, so he refrains himself.
"I want to do something else. Maybe I should visit my grandmother. I kind of miss her." He lied.
Xu Long Wei can see that his son is not telling the truth but lets it go. The boy is very mature for his actual age, and being his son, he knows him more than others. Xu Li is very similar to his mother.
To make Xu Li tell him what bothers him, he needs to wait for him to open up.
"I see. If you need me, you can always tell me anything." He prepared to leave when a small one pulled his hand. He looks at his son's eyes that remind him of Vera.
"Dad, are you planning to marry soon?" The boy asked.
Xu Long Wei, although startled by his son's question, didn't show any emotion on his face. He bends down and touches his son's delicate face. He is not an affectionate person; however, there is always an exception—his son and wife.
"No, I will not marry. Your mom is the only person I will marry. She is my only wife." He assured his son.
Seeing that his father is serious, the boy felt relieved. He thought that his father would marry the woman in the medical building — good thing his father still loves his mom. But something is even bothering him. Why would the staff say that he will have another mommy? Xu Long Wei is more confused now.
Anyway, as long as his dad said that he is not going to marry unless it is his mommy, he is delighted. He smiles at his dad and reassures him that he is okay. He truly misses doing something outside. Because of it, he was allowed to visit his grandmother!
He became very excited again.
