The day it all began was supposed to be just another ordinary one.
For Sophia Rothmer, that meant escorting a rookie explorer through the Level One area of a simple dungeon. Sure, her mother had once foretold a future where she'd end up in another world on her own adventure—but that was months ago, and it probably wasn’t going to happen.
For a group of mercenaries from another world, it meant damaging the core of a dungeon instance, grabbing some extra loot, and pinning the blame on Sophia or her trainee.
For Dav Carolan, it meant stepping into a brand-new world. He might not know what’s going on, but he’ll figure it out—he always does.
The heist didn’t go as planned. After a disorienting, possibly life-altering journey through the space between all things, known as the Origin, Sophia and Dav find themselves in a cave. They have no clue what happened to the mercenaries, no idea where they are, and Sophia appears to have lost her powers.
Not exactly the warmest welcome to the Shattered Lands.
